Katy B‘s set at last week’s Camp Bestival in sunny Dorset was unrelenting and unapologetically uptempo. Having had Django Django nicely warm up the virtually comatose crowd just beforehand, the London singer raised the bar that little big higher with an energetic 40 minute appearance that included all of her biggest tunes.
Straight off the bat with Turn The Music Louder, she tore through other stompers including Lights On, Broken Record, Who Am I, and the spellbinding Katy On A Mission. Even her top five hit Crying For No Reason was given a upbeat makeover to keep the mood high.
Intermittently supported on stage by her four top drawer dancers and backed throughout by her sassy DJ on the decks, it felt like a very modern take on the ‘girl power’ theme. Unlike some other regular chart dwelling acts, Katy B backs up the hype with a premium live act which, for any festival organiser, has to be well worth whatever fee she is charging.
