Norwegian pop-punk rockers, Sløtface formed back in 2012 and have since released four EPs and their recent debut album, Try Not to Freak Out. They took to the Joiners in Southampton as part of their extensive UK and Europe tour celebrating its release.

Sløtface are known for their political activism and challenging societal issues such as gender inequality, and how the media represents young people and women. This is reflected in songs such as Magazine, an energetic track which kicked off the set.

They continued to perform songs from the album, including Pools, Galaxies and Night Guilt. The venue was packed with fans who jumped and sang along. Lead singer Haley Shea was on top form, full of energy and interacting with the crowd and fellow band mates, Tor-Arne Vikingstad, Halvard Skeie Wiencke and Lasse Lokøy.

2016 releases, Bright Lights and Empire Records were also performed and were clearly popular with the crowd. During Sponge State, bassist Lokøy encouraged fans to jump together and form a mosh pit, even joining the crowd himself for a section of the song.

Sløtface closed their set with 2017 singles Nancy Drew and Backyard, which left the crowd wanting more. Sløtface are a band who are clearly passionate about their music, and stand up for the things they believe in. Their energetic live performance shows this, but also highlights how they enjoy being on stage. It must be gratifying for them to see their full-on effort rewarded with a reciprocal response from the audience.
