We caught alt-rock legends Shed Seven in Birmingham last month and they didn’t disappoint. The group – formed in York in 1990 – had not released any new material since 2001 so this years album Instant Pleasures is something of a big deal for fans, and this was their biggest ever UK tour ever in December…. or ‘#Shedcember’ as they had coined it.

Appropriately for shows during the festive period, the stage set was decorated with Christmas lights. The band were enjoying themselves throughout; frontman Rick Witter was having a chat with a fan called Tracie who was trying to get his attention to tell him she took a selfie with him last year in Shrewsbury. It was typical of an informal, intimate evening which was basically one mass sing along.

For the last song of the evening, Chasing Rainbows, The Sheds had pretty much all hands in the air and the whole crowd singing along. And even when the song finished the crowd still continued singing: “I could deny, But I’ll never realise, I’m just chasing rainbows All the time”, while the band was waving goodbye at the end of a memorable night.
